Team Third Law’s adult competitors put in some good work today at NAGA Boca Raton, collecting seven medals: 5 gold and 2 silver!
But the Naples Lloyd Irvin affiliate isn’t done yet — tomorrow the kids competition team will take on their first tournament, looking to get some great competition experience and bring home some more golds! Best wishes to all the new competitors on the mats tomorrow…
In the meantime, here’s a roundup of today’s news:
Representing Third Law’s women’s program, Crystal Bradley was first to fight on Saturday. In her first division, she fought novice no-gi, tapping her first opponent with an armbar and winning her second match on points.
Hungry for more competition experience, Crystal decided to also fight in the next skill-level up: beginner no gi. This time she had one match for gold, winning on points.
Zachary “Maximus” Straub won two no gi matches on his way to a silver medal in the beginner division, getting his first victory by points and submitting his second opponent with a rear naked choke.
Coach Joeseph Ruggiero also won silver in his no gi advanced division, snagging an armbar in his first match and defeating his second opponent on points.
Next up were the gi fights, with Crystal Bradley dominating again in her white belt division. She won her first match with an armbar and her second on points, earning her third gold medal for the day!
Coach Ruggiero also won gold in his blue belt division in the gi, winning his first match with a triangle choke and his second and third matches on points.
Maximus also took home gold in his white belt gi division, winning two matches with points.
Congrats also to Christpher Marrie, who competed for the first time! If you’re a current student and you’re interested in competition, just talk to one of the coaches about the White Belt Competition Team Tryouts. It’s a great way to put your BJJ to the test — and it’s a lot of fun!
