About Team Third Law

Third Law Jiu Jitsu was founded in 2007 in Naples, Florida by husband/wife team, Roberto and Katy Torralbas.

Our mission is to provide men, women and children with a safe, clean, professional and fun environment to study and practice Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai Kickboxing and Mixed Martial Arts.

Roberto Torralbas

Master Roberto graduated from Cornell University in 2005 with a degree in electrical engineering and computer science.

He holds a Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and has won numerous championships, including the Gold Medal at the No Gi Pan American Championship in 2015 and Brown Belt Pan American Champion in 2013.

He is a dedicated coach, competitor and a student of the art, spending hours analyzing footage and studying technique in order to streamline and perfect his teaching and coaching systems.

Katy Torralbas

Coach Katy, graduated from Cornell University in 2006 with a degree in English and history.

She became Purple Belt American National Champion in 2013 and Blue Belt Pan American Champion in 2013.

As a wife and mother, Katy continues training, as well as competing in (and winning) international championships.

She is a mentor to other women, introducing them to this beautiful art and guiding them on their journeys to health, strength and wellness.

Joey Ruggiero

Coach Joey came to Team Third Law as a 19-year-old who just wanted to train. He was soon addicted, and started training and competing all the time.

One of Master Roberto’s favorite stories is how Coach Joey had a streak of losses at white belt, but never gave up and ultimately starting winning all the time. Now a purple belt, he has won numerous international championships at purple belt, and was also Blue Belt Pan American in 2013.

He teaches kids, teens and adults classes at the school in both Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai Kickboxing.

Joe Formica

Coach Joe was working as a jail correctional officer in Fort Myers when a friend convinced him to come check out a class at Team Third Law.

He lived in Cape Coral at the time, and drove back and forth for months, sometimes twice a day, to train with Master Roberto and everyone at our school.

When Master Roberto found him sleeping in his car between the late-night, advanced class training and the early morning class, Coach Joe decided to make the move to live in Naples closer to Third Law.

Today, he is a purple belt and has won international championships at purple.

He was also Blue Belt Pan American Champion in 2014. At the school, he teaches kids, teens and adults Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes.

See What Our Students Have To Say…

I can’t even to begin to explain the results I have experienced with this man’s incredible class. The results I have reaped from this class are not only physical, but mental as well. I believe any form of the arts are mentally enlightening and teach you many life lessons and respect for others.

Jullian Rives

First and foremost I want to commend you on the great program you have in Third Law. I went to your gym not knowing what to expect. Wow! It by far exceeded my expectations.

Abram Valdez

I have always wanted to train in BJJ, but I never felt comfortable with some of the “ego-driven” instructors and their ways of training. That all changed when I walked into Roberto’s class…
