Team Third Law had a great showing at the Miami International Open on October 17, 2015, sending six adult competitors and bringing home seven medals: Three gold, three silver and one bronze.
One of only two international jiu jitsu tournaments held in Florida each year, the Miami Open is always a good challenge for any student who wants to participate in a competition that is a step above smaller, local tournaments.
Two of the team’s gold medalists were white belt women: Tori and Theresa both won gold in their respective white belt adult divisions.
Theresa won four matches on her way to the top of the podium, winning two matches by points and two matches by choke from the back.
Tori won two matches, both against the same opponent since her division was a round robin. Both times she outscored her opponent, winning both fights 9 to 0.
Coach Joe and Coach Joey both made it to the finals of their adult purple belt middle weight division, closing it out for the team and taking home gold and silver. Coach Joe won his first match by triangle and his second 25 to 0. Coach Joey won two fights by bow and arrow choke. Coach Joey also won silver in the purple belt open weight, winning two matches by outscoring his opponents.
Coach Katy medaled in her purple belt adult division, taking home silver after winning one match 2 to 0.
Blue belt Chris Powell won bronze in his adult division, winning one match and outscoring his opponent 9-3.
Thanks also to Rebecca, Abigail, Rachel and Stan who came to cheer everyone on!
