It was a good weekend for Team Lloyd Irvin.
On the same night that the team celebrated its 15 year anniversary, two of its MMA fighters cleaned up in the Ultimate Fighting Championship octagon at the UFC in Washington, DC. Team Third Law BJJ & MMA’s top competitors trained at the Lloyd Irvin Naples school on Saturday night, and in between grappling and kickboxing sparring sessions they watched their teammates UFC fights.
While most people may be familiar with Dominick Cruz, who successfully defended his UFC Bantamweight title, it was another Team Lloyd Irvin MMA fighter who made his UFC debut on Saturday, Oct. 1: Mike, “The Hulk,” Easton.
Ten years ago, Easton walked into Master Lloyd’s Camp Springs gym and said he wanted to be an MMA fighter in the UFC.
Now a black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Easton dominated in his first UFC with the ref stopping the fight in the second round as his opponent Byron Bloodworth fell to the ground.
Cruz’s headline fight against Demetrius Johnson went five rounds, with Cruz repeatedly taking down his opponent. At the end, the judges gave it to Cruz by unanimous decision.
