Third Law had a full house Wednesday night, with about 40 people packing the mats for its first Beginner Boot Camp Seminar, which will happen monthly from now on. This month focused on BJJ techniques and next month will focus on MMA techniques.
The free seminar is a great chance for beginner students to learn some BJJ or MMA basics, while hanging out with teammates, having fun and getting a great workout.
Robert has been with the school for about four years, and his commitment to the school and to BJJ is visible to all who meet him.
Master Roberto spoke about Robert’s hard work over those four years, and the importance of BJJ to his family. Robert’s three children Aleah, Adam and Sabrina train in the Juniors, Little Ninjas and Tiny Ninjas programs, and his wife Michelle trains in Third Law’s Women-Only program.
Robert came into the school looking for a program for his kids, and initially told Master Roberto that he was too old to train himself. Today, he is famous for his takedowns, giving much younger opponents a hard time on the mats, and is always a positive, valuable presence in the classes he attends.
After Robert shook everyone’s hand as a blue belt for the first time, it was time to get down to business for the Boot Camp seminar.
Coach Joe Formica and Master Roberto led the seminar, starting with a warm up and then covering lots of important BJJ basics.
Techniques included: Pummeling and the importance of underhooks, double leg takedowns, sprawls, straight line theory and guard recovery from mount and side control, bullfighting guard passing and more.
Students worked in pairs, getting a great workout while covering the techniques.
Finally, to end up the night, the students relaxed and enjoyed some Cuban food from World Bakery in Naples, the best Cuban restaurant in town. A great time was had by all!
