Every day is a great day to train at Team Third Law BJJ & MMA, but with three always-packed classes back to back on Sunday, it’s many students’ favorite.
It all starts with the Competition Team Class at 9 a.m., a class specially designed for Third Law’s competitors. Following competition team at 10 a.m., the gis come off and the gloves go on for MMA Intro. Then, it’s back into uniform for an hour long grappling grind to end the morning’s three hour training session.
Props to those who did all three classes: Master Roberto Torralbas, Coach Joey Ruggiero, Eusabio Landa, Crystal Bradley, Katy Torralbas and Scottie Tucker.
9 a.m. Competition Team – Where it all begins
You never know what Master Roberto will have planned for the competitors. It could be a circuit, could be some great tournament-tested technique… or just an hour of straight grappling.
This week he brought in some great video inspiration. The photo below gives you a clue to what inspired his craziness…

Check out the tv screen behind Master Roberto for a clue to the craziness… Jacare…
While a highlight video of BJJ and MMA legend Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza played, the 10 students in attendance grappled hard and worked on their competition game plans.
Watch a clip of the craziness in the video below!
To attend this special competitors-only class, you have to make it through the school’s White Belt Competition Team tryouts. This week, Mikhail Dye, who just did the tryouts on Saturday, came to his first competition team class… congrats!
It was a great workout session for all who attended: Master Roberto, Coaches Joey Ruggiero and Joseph Formica, Katy Torralbas, Zachary Straub, Eusabio Landa, Scottie Tucker, Crystal Bradley,Tony Orbegoso and Jeffrey Lucas.

Then, at the end of the class, Master Roberto called out Zachary Straub (aka Maximus) and Eusabio Landa for a “Match of the Day.”

Next it was the teens’ turn — Scottie Tucker and Tony Orbegoso were on the spot for the second “Match of the Day.”

Time to bow out, take the gis off, and get ready for an hour of MMA!
10 a.m. MMA Intro – Gis off, Gloves on!
Next up, it was time for MMA Intro.
Master Roberto started class practicing Muay Thai kickboxing, working on the students’ roundhouses. Then it was onto combinations of punches and kicks, as well as some technical punch adjustments.
The MMA class was another full house, with Eusabio Landa, Joel Hazelbaker, Scottie Tucker, Katy Torralbas, Coach Joey Ruggiero and Jack Defossez. Plus, we had two students who were doing their first class: Congrats Sabina Bhasin and Austin Ritter!
Master Roberto rounded out the class with some groundwork, working on knee on belly control, switching from side to side while controling knee on belly, and throwing punches from the position.
And then, of course, some grappling to finish it off.

11 a.m. Grappling – One-hour grind time!
But the Sunday grind wasn’t over yet!
It was time for the students to gi-up again and put in some more time on the maps, grappling for the final, hour-long class of the day.
On the mats for this class we had Master Roberto Torralbas, Coach Joey Ruggiero, Gary Waskovich, Eusabio Landa, Crystal Bradley, Katy Torralbas, Scottie Tucker, Andre Arata, Patrick Bozok, Jack Defossez and Matt Wincel.
It’s an amazing feeling to get up, work your body hard and then leave the gym knowing you put in a good solid three hours of training before noon! Ouss!

Three hours of training down before noon on Sunday? Check!
