Mental toughness is important on the mat... and in life. Do you have it?
We’re always looking to challenge ourselves physically and mentally at Team Third Law, so when a student suggested we do the Tough Mudder race in Tampa in December we jumped at the chance.
A bunch of students have already committed to do the event together as a team, facing all kinds of mental and physical obstacles together. Want to join us? Just leave a comment below to let us know you’re in!
Check out this video of the event in Pennsylvania from Tough Mudder’s YouTube channel:
The event takes place at the Little Everglades Ranch in Tampa on a 12-mile course with 21 obstacles including ice pits, mud trenches and other obstacles with names including “The Gauntlet,” “Fire Walker” and “Electroshock Therapy.” The organizers estimate that it’ll take about 2 hours and 30 minutes to complete.
There are Tough Mudder events all over the country, but this one looks like it’s going to have some Florida-specific challenges. They say never to swim in fresh water in the Sunshine State … but one of the obstacles is called “Gator Bait” so we won’t have a choice!

Map for Tough Mudder Tampa, December 2011
Founded by an Englishman who worked in counter-terrorism for the British Goverment, the Tough Mudder calls itself the “toughest event on the planet.” On average, only 78 percent of participants finish according to their website.
Tough Mudder is not your average lame-ass mud run or spirit-crushing ‘endurance’ road race. It’s Ironman meets Burning Man, and it is coming to a location near you. Our 10-12 mile obstacle courses are designed by British Special Forces to test all around strength, stamina, mental grit, and camaraderie. — ToughMudder.com
